Man charged with burglary, credit card theft and theft in Darien

A suspect involved in multiple crimes in Fairfield County is facing a slew of charges after being arrested on active warrants, police said.

On Thursday, May 26, officers responded to Stamford Superior Court to serve a pair of active warrants for the arrest of 55-year-old Stratford resident Dean Henton following two incidents in Darien.

According to a Darien Police Department spokesperson, a Brook Street business owner left his building unattended for approximately half an hour on Thursday, March 17, and upon his return an employee of a nearby business informed that a suspect – later identified as Henton – had entered the unit while he was away.

The business owner said on Friday April 15 he admitted that one of his business checks had been stolen during his breach and cashed at Norwalk on March 17 – the day of the alleged break-in.

The check was written and endorsed by Henton, who had no relationship with the owner, who never wrote the check, he said.

Police said surveillance footage led investigators to identify Henton as a suspect, known to detectives, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

In this case, Henton was charged with:

  • Heist;
  • Falsification;
  • Flight.

On the same day the first warrant was served, officers also served a second, charging Henton with multiple felonies for an alleged CVS robbery in Darien on Saturday, April 16.

It is alleged in this case that a woman reported to police that she had received a text message from her credit card company warning her that someone was trying to charge CVS $206.95 and that the charges had been rejected.

According to police, the woman reported that her wallet was missing from her desk when she double-checked.

Investigators said security cameras showed a man entering the business through a back door, the suspect – again identified as Henton – walking into an office, taking the woman’s wallet and exiting through the same gate.

Henton was later arrested by members of the New Canaan Police Department and held on multiple outstanding warrants.

Henton was charged with:

  • Heist;
  • Criminal attempt at credit card fraud;
  • credit card theft;
  • Flight.

Henton is being held in lieu of bond and was arraigned May 26.
