Capital One can automatically increase a cardholder’s credit limit, like many credit card issuers. However, those who don’t want to wait for an automatic increase can apply for a Capital One line of credit increase online, through the Capital One Mobile app, or by phone.

New Capital One cardholders and those with a secured credit account or low credit or who have received an increase or decrease in the Capital One line of credit within the previous six months may not be eligible.

Ways to Apply for a Capital One Line of Credit Increase

Capital One cardholders can request a line of credit increase online, through the Capital One Mobile app or by calling Capital One Customer Service. Some cardholders will receive an immediate decision. Capital One may need to review specific information for other cardholders, and a decision may take up to 30 days.

All cardholders will receive a letter stating the approval or denial and the reason the request was declined.

To request a line of credit increase online

  1. Go to the Capital One website and sign in.
  2. Select the Settings icon.
  3. Select Increase credit limit.
  4. On the Line of Credit Increase Request screen, enter all the required information.
  5. Click Submit.

  1. Log in to the Capital One Mobile app.

  • The cardholder recently had a late or missed payment.

  • The cardholder’s average monthly payment is too low to meaningfully pay off the outstanding balance.
  • The cardholder does not use the card often enough.
